Italian Botanical Study Maiolica Plate

An antique Italian maiolica plate hand painted with a botanical study of a thorned plant with seed pods.  The plate is gently fluted and the rim painted in yellow with orange stripes.  Cockeral style mark to the reverse used by Cantagalli and also their imitators of the period such as Galvani.  It appears to be an early 20th century example.  Lovely period look and evocative of the region.

Condition

Two small glaze losses around the rim.  Minor wear.  Slight kiln dust in the glaze.  Light crazing.  Glaze flaws to reverse from production.
