Original real photographic postcard of of Frank Douglas Kemp interned a Prisoner of War [ POW ] in Germany together with a Russian POW. Inscribed to the reverse " Given to me by Mr Frank Douglas Kemp \\2. There is also a x placed on the reverse to correspond to the POW sitting down. Card has a continental divided back.

The POW is believed to be 9654 Frank [ Douglas ] Kemp who was serving with the South African Signal Company, Royal Engineers and was taken POW at Halcourt on 24.3.1918 and Gassed. Born Maidstone, Kent. NOK given as M Kemp of 36...Rd., Folkestone. DOB: given as 4.8.81. His place of residence given as Swinton, Manchester.  A later Red Cross document gives place of capture as Guisecourt and date of birth as 10.11.1872. 

Frank Douglas Kemp was born in 1871 the son of Edwin & Mary A. Kemp. In 1871 he was residing at 30 Carey St, Maidstone. In 1891 residing at 6 St James Place, Plumstead as a Boarder. Occupation given as Blacksmith [ middle name given as Dawson - presumably an error by the enumerator ]. After 1891 there seems to be no trace of him. Suggests he had moved abroad to one of the British Colonies [ presumably South Africa ].
