A tax bill for one of Saline County Kansas’s early pioneer. His  arrival is recorded as 1861.Coming to Saline with son Royal D. Calkins. He was  later a Civil War Veteran, GAR member and father of ten children who lived into adulthood. Royal’s life was cut short by a Union Pacific Train. He had many decendents some which are still in Salina, KA. today.

Ransom was originally from Oswego, NY. He farmed in Kansas and appears to have returned NY, to live until he died.

This document with Mr. Calkins properties is over 150 years old. It has two fold creases and is about 8x10.
