The SA-12 is equipped with the original discrete DAC "Marantz Musical Mastering (MMM)" developed for the SA-10. MMM consists of MMM-Stream, which converts the PCM input signal to 1 bit DSD signal (11.2 / 12.3 MHz), and MMM-Conversion, which converts the DSD signal to analog. Since you can set algorithms and filter parameters for signal conversion, and freely select parts that greatly affect sound quality, it is possible to thoroughly create Marantz's unique sound that is impossible with commercially available DAC chips.

By developing not only the DAC, but everything from the mechanical engine to the output circuit in-house, we have achieved Marantz's ideal sound. A complete isolation system that eliminates high-frequency noise that negatively affects sound quality is installed between MMM-Stream and MMM-Conversion, achieving complete digital/analog separation. This shuts out high frequency noise from entering the analog circuit. The analog stage after the DAC is a fully discrete audio circuit equipped with Marantz's proprietary high-speed amplifier module HDAM®-SA3 for high-speed, information-rich sound. In contrast to the fully balanced circuit of SA-10, the SA-12 uses an unbalanced circuit.

The first stage that receives the differential output from the DAC is an HDAM®-SA3 buffer + 1st-order low-pass filter, and the second stage is an HDAM®-SA3 current-feedback differential amplifier + 2nd-order low-pass filter. By improving the circuit, we have been able to eliminate the non-flammable resistor used in the past and use a high-quality resistor, achieving even higher sound quality. USB-DAC function supports up to 11.2 MHz DSD, 384 kHz / 32 bit PCM input. It also supports file playback of up to 5.6 MHz DSD and 192 kHz / 24 bit PCM recorded on data discs and USB memory. Equipped with one optical/coaxial digital input and one coaxial digital output system.
