It
is completely hand etched and hand painted on cloth showing bright
vignettes of figurative motifs created with polychrome pigments on canvas. The
seven days are vertical columns with the God, wayang figure, bird and tree
appropriate to that day at the top and the animal and demonic figures at the
bottom.
Bali’s complex system of multiple calendars
determines whether a particular day is favorable for a variety of activities,
including weddings, trade, thievery, doctor’s visits, planting rice, and
beginning a journey, just to name a few….
The composition is gridded into 49 images arranged
in 7 vertical columns with deities, wayang figures, animals, and demonic
figures (buta) particular to each day. / Palalintangan, a Balinese astrological
calendar divided into 49 sections with representations of gods, spirits,
animals and various symbols, accompanied by Indonesian texts. Painting on

The Calendar is well preserved mounted on a Fiber
board enclosed in a wood frame with a plexiglass cover.
