A wonderful antique Chinese Famille Rose brush pot in unusual square form.  Each of the four sides are artfully hand painted.  One side depicts a sage or scholar sitting under a tree.  On the opposite side is a delicately painted crane under a blooming tree.  The other two sides have hand painted calligraphy, which sadly, I cannot read, but I presume they are long poems, and they are each signed in red.  There is a stamp on the base as well.  Clearly, this has been used in the past, there is minor chipping around the top and sides, but very minor.  Please study the photographs.  The brush pot measures 4-3/4" tall and 2-3/8" across.
We used to import Chinese antiques from the Chinese National Arts & Crafts Department in the 1980's and wholesale them to antique shops and designers. This piece was purchased in China at that time as an antique.  It is from our personal collection.  We used it as a pen and pencil holder which is not too far from its original intention as a brush holder.
