Rare Civil War Union Shield Ladder Medal

CO.K
1st MINN
VOL.HY. ART
WAR 1861-5
WILLIAM RUSSELL

I believe this is the symbol of the First Battery of Minnesota Light Artillery that played a critical role in the first major battle of the Civil War (?)

The 1st Minnesota participated in the battles of First Bull Run, Antietam and the Battle of Gettysburg. The regiment's most famous action occurred on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg when Major General Winfield Scott Hancock ordered the 1st Minnesota to charge into a brigade of 1200 Confederate soldiers.

Please look at all the photos. I took indoor & outdoor pictures, indoor pictures looks yellow but the outdoor pictures shows it silver color !!

Condition:
Fully intact & in very, very nice condition
The 3 panels are connected with silver "O" rings 1 of those "O" rings looks more copperish in color (?).

I hope you will welcome some friendly feedback from an old historian from Minnesota with 50 years of experience handling Civil War items on a daily basis. Your description confused the activities of the 1st Minnesota Infantry and Light Artillery with the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery. Neither the 1st MN Light Artillery nor the 1st MN Heavy Artillery served at Bull Run or Gettysburg, that was the Infantry regiment, a separate body of men. Noted below is the history of the 1st MN HV Artillery, to which your medal refers:

MINNESOTA FIRST HEAVY ARTILLERY (One Year). This regiment was organized in the summer of 1864, mustered in by companies and ordered to Chattanooga in the winter of 1864-65. It was composed of twelve companies, each containing 140 men, besides the officers. It was placed in charge of the heavy guns and forts at Chattanooga, a responsible position, as it was thought Hood would endeavor the retake the city. It remained there until the war closed and was mustered out by companies in June and Sept., 1865.  Here is the history of the soldier who owned your medal: William Russell, Residence was not listed; 35 years old. Enlisted on 2/15/1865 as a Private. On 2/15/1865 he mustered into "K" Co. MN 1st Heavy Artillery. He was Mustered Out on 9/27/1865. Other Information: born in England.

On May-11-24 at 11:34:42 PDT, seller added the following information:

The 1st MN Hvy Artillery saw no combat, although it included some veterans who reenlisted in it after their terms of service expired in the 1st Minnesota Infantry. The 1st MN H.A. is distinguished by having in its ranks the last surviving member of the Union Army, Albert Woolson, of Duluth MN, who lived until 1956 and passed away at the age of 106. I trust you will update your description based on the foregoing.
