Gibson ES-347 Ebony 1979 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar

This guitar is a commission sale  - if you have a high end guitar you are interested in selling, please contact us via our easy to find website - search: Sell Us Your Guitar.

Here for sale we have a Gibson ES-347 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar in Ebony finish. Made in the USA in 1979, this set-neck construction guitar consists of a laminated Maple body, a Laminated Maple arched top, a Maple neck, and a 22-fret Ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include a TP6 tailpiece, original Gibson tuners, a tune-o-matic bridge, and an original set of Series VII High Output "Super Humbucking" pickups. These pickups are wired to two independent volume controls, two independent tone controls, a three-way pickup selector, and a two-way split-coil switch.

The Maple neck plays very well, with what might be described as a slim 'D' profile that sits very comfortably in the hand and offers an articulate and responsive playing experience in all registers. The Gloss finish to the rear of the neck ensures that navigation of the 24.75" scale is an effortless affair, whilst the Ebony fingerboard provides a pleasant and luxurious surface for the fingers. The 12" fingerboard radius is traditional for Gibson, and strikes the perfect balance between comfortable chord playing and practicality for lead lines and string bending. The smooth lines of the body are as comfortable in the arms as ever, whilst the semi-hollow construction produces a resonant and lively playing experience. The addition of the TP6 tailpiece allows the player to fine tune each individual string, which improves the stability of tuning when bending and really digging in.

Amplified, the pair of Series VII High Output "Super Humbucking" humbuckers work in conjunction with the semi-hollow construction to deliver the full and thick sounds that we all expect from Gibson. The guitar resonates beautifully, filling out the sound with a deep and rich character. The neck pickup is warm and round, and can handle plenty of gain meaning you can achieve anything from jazzy lines through to soaring rock and blues solo tones. The bridge pickup is hotter, driving the front end of an amp with ease and producing the bright, biting tones that cut right through the mix to put your playing front and centre. The traditional dual humbucker control layout feels very responsive, allowing you to explore a wide tonal palette right on the instrument. One of the more unique features of this guitar is the two-way split-coil switch that allows the player to choose between a humbucking or single-coil sound, expanding this guitar's versatility even further.
