Members of the Mormon Battalion brought gold back from the California gold fields in 1849. President and Prophet of the LDS Church Brigham Young, his counselor John Taylor, and John Kay drew up the design for several denominations of gold coins. These coins were minted in the Deseret Mint, which was located west of the old Hotel Utah on South Temple. The design on the back is "Holiness to the Lord", a 3 pointed phrygian crown, and the all seeing eye. On the other side is the denomination and 2 clasped hands. This replica is made of pure 24 Karat gold plated. Brilliant shiny surfaces. Approx. 7/8" in diameterCoin looks much nicer than scan, bright Gold color.
