This is a tiny treasure, especially for those who love Noh, Kyogen or Kabuki (Japanese classical performing arts)!!!
It is a 11.4 cm / 4.5 inches tall Hirado-ware ceramic figurine. Hirado-ware has been known since Edo period (1603 ~ 1867) for highest quality porcelain products exported to European countries.
This figurine is very unique, funny and lovely as shown by the attached pictures. Its head does move or rotate. Its tongue also moves (photo #3 & 4).
The figurine is a dancing monkey. It comes from Japanese traditional performance acts such as Noh, Kyogen or Kabuki. An actor on the stage wearing monkey's mask performed a dance called "Sanbaso" to pray for rich harvest.
It is in excellent condition, i.e., no flaws.
