Up for sale, a 1980 Gibson L6-S Custom in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. The L6-S is often credited as one of the most underrated solid body guitars in Gibson's history and was the very first collaboration between Gibson and Bill Lawrence, who designed the ceramic magnet pickups used in this model. Weighing 8lbs 2oz, the L6-S has a contoured maple body that closely resembles a wider, thinner Les Paul, with a more generous Florentine cutaway. This guitar has plenty of punch and sustain strummed acoustically, with a tone that is very evenly balanced across the frequency spectrum. These qualities translates well through the epoxy-potted, Bill Lawrence-designed "superhumbuckers.” Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this guitar features 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.

The three-piece maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and rolled edges on the slab maple fretboard, measuring .810" at the 1st fret and a full .975" at the 12th. The two octave fretboard sports pearloid dot position markers, black side dots, and jumbo fretwire which has plenty of meat and crown, showing only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock boasts a gold Gibson logo and original nickel-plated Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with metal tulip buttons.

All of the electronics function as intended, and the rotary switch works as follows:

1. Both pickups, in series
2. Neck pickup
3. Both pickups, in parallel
4. Both pickups, parallel out of phase, with the neck pickup's bass response restricted through a series capacitor.
5. Bridge pickup
6. Both pickups, series out of phase.

Hardware includes the "harmonica" bridge and stopbar tailpiece, both of which have gleaming chrome plating along with the humbucker covers. Original plastics are also all intact and clean, with a trio of black speed knobs, a chicken head rotary knob, and single-ply black pickguard. The gloss Natural nitro lacquer finish exhibits some prominent finish checking on the treble side of the back, light buckle rash, and some additional minor marks and light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is extremely smooth and clean, with just one tiny finish chip central to the carve behind fret 7.

The original form fit black tolex case with purple plush interior is included. The case is notably clean, retaining its original handle and functional latches.
