A little history :

The talwar originated alongside other curved swords such as the Persian shamshir, Turkish kilij and Afghani pulwar, all of these swords being originally derived from earlier curved swords developed in Turkish Central Asia.

There are many variations of the Talwar sword with different types of blades. Some blades are very unusual. However, all of these blades are curved, and the vast majority of talwars have blades more typical of a regulation Talwar saber. Many models of the talwar saber feature an increased curvature halfway through the blade. Broadening of the blade near the tip is relatively common. It would appear that the British Pattern 1796 light cavalry saber blade is similar to some examples of talwar, the talwar saber may have contributed to British saber design.

Description :

This is a superb Indian Talwar sword. The handle is in white steel, quite robust with a slight play, in good condition. The blade is curved and in very good condition for its age. The saber is with its original scabbard which is in good condition, still solid. Talwar swords are sold in most cases without a scabbard because these were made of rudimentary materials (wood, leather, trim). Very nice saber recovered from a garage sale, never cleaned, in very good condition for its age. Do not hesitate, the saber is very beautiful and pleasant to hold in hand and to look at.

By purchasing this superb saber, you will be in possession of a rare model of the legendary Indian saber ''Talwar'' which inspired the most famous British manufacturers in the design of their sabers. It will perfectly complement your Talwar collection or enhance your showcase as an exotic piece.
