KING'S VIEWS OF NEW YORK, 1906. 400 Illustrations. © 1905 FIRST EDITION. Published by Moses King. 15" x 10½" folio size, decorated cloth hardcover edition. Illustrated with black and white photos and illustrations. 96 pages.

Condition: VERY GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION. Exterior looks great as shown in photos. Binding is good. Pages are in very good, very clean and bright condition. No torn, loose or missing pages. A great example of this very rare 117-year-old book.

Special Note: This particular copy of KING’S VIEWS OF NEW YORK, 1906 was distributed as a personalized souvenir for attendees of the 6th Annual Banquet of Douglas, Lacey & Co., Bankers, New York City, held at the Hotel Vendome in 1906. A plate on the inside front cover attests to this (see photo below).

Description:

When it comes to turn-of-the-century photos of New York City, there was no one more famous than Moses King, who not only published magnificent view books like the one offered here, but also postcards, pamphlets and guidebooks.

This is the 1906 hardcover folio-sized edition of KING'S VIEWS OF NEW YORK CITY. It contains a total of 400 illustrations, most of them photos, the rest illustrations made from photos (so close to photos in appearance I frequently had to squint to tell the difference). It's a stunning collection of views sure to excite any New York City architectural scholar, history buff or photo collector. Skyscrapers and other buildings, bridges, street scenes, steamships, parks and museums, churches, schools, hospitals and much, much more. All with informative descriptive captions.

Again, that's FOUR HUNDRED historic images of New York City's magnificent, turn-of-the-century buildings, many of which are today no more than memories.

And what a dramatic presentation. Look at the beautifully decorated boards and the dynamic layouts inside. It's truly a work of art.

In order to give you the most accurate description of this rare and valuable book, I have provided some helpful details below. For the benefit of bidders who are New York City historians, architectural scholars, genealogists, etc. -- and who routinely use books like this for specific research -- I have personally prepared a detailed summary of the many photos and illustrations that appear in the book. At the bottom of this page, you can see some of those images for yourself.

I hope you'll take a few moments to have a look.
