Lovely antique Victorian period shadow box that I've owned for over 30 years and is a memorial wreath made entirely of white feathers and some artificial floral green leaves and silver ones which are very pretty.  White feathers were often made into memorial or remembrance wreaths for someone who died young, the color white representing purity, youth, and innocence. This large shadow box has a deep recess that the wreath is set into and measures approximately 7 1/2" deep. Rather than having a plain frame, this one is very ornate in detail and gilded and therefore was probably displayed prominently in the family's parlour as it is very striking and makes a statement. Several different flowers are crafted from feathers to make a nice, thick wreath with good symmetry. I see lilies, roses, daislies and other types, There are also green leaves and silver leaves which add to it's understated beauty. It is fastened upon a creamy white cotton lawn or other sheer cotton fabric blend and furthers the theme of youth and innocence lost to an early death. When we moved last spring, the wreath had a few small things drift down to the bottom but they are not very noticeable especially when it is hung on the wall, however, I've taken a few shadow boxes to framers before when things had fallen loose to open the frame and clean inside, but one can also do this themselves if they are handy. (I am not, lol). As it is, I have left it as it is as it is barely noticeable. But that's up to the buyer. the original wavy glass itself is very clean and clear and doesn't need to be opened up to be cleaned. 

This shadow box measures 25" tall by 27" wide and has the type of ornate frame one would see on a painting. There is some minor, expected wear to the gilt frame as it is well over 100 years old. Please see my photos as part of the description and if you request more, I am happy to take more.
