Philippe Baucheron de Boissoudy, born in Gien (Loiret) on February 26, 1830 and died in Saint-Père (Nièvre) on November 9, 1903, is a general officer of the French Navy;
He belonged to a family from Berry (Issoudun, Indre).
He participated as frigate captain in the campaign of 1870-1871, notably commanding the armored ram Taureau in August 18701. From 1872 to 1874 he commanded the Kersaint on the banks of Newfoundland, where he was charged as a commissioner to the French government with negotiating fishing agreements with England. In 1883, he took command of the cruiser Le Dupleix. Rear admiral in 1885, he was appointed Major General of the Navy and took command of the Northern Armored Division. In 1890, he rose to the rank of vice-admiral and became Inspector General of the Navy. In 1893 he was assigned to command the Mediterranean and Levant squadron. It was he who welcomed the Russian squadron commanded by Admiral Avellan to Toulon, to seal the Franco-Russian alliance2. In 1895 he was admitted to the General Staff of the Navy.
