A little history :

Immediately after the Anoual disaster, the Spaniards were first interested in the British Whippet, but the prohibitive price of this battle tank pushed them to switch to the Renault FT, Paris being moreover well disposed insofar as it has every interest in avoiding the contagion of the Rifaine rebellion to the French protectorate of Morocco. The Iberian army is already familiar with this model since a copy had been received in June 1919 and subjected to a series of tests considered to be very conclusive. However, the negotiations dragged on and, finally, ten aircraft armed with a 7 mm Hotchkiss machine gun and an eleventh TSF (as well as eleven tank carriers) were purchased in September 1921 to form a combat company, six Schneider CA1 tanks being acquired at exactly the same time. The company landed in Spanish Morocco at Melila on March 12, 1922. The Schneiders were the first to undergo their baptism of fire on March 14.
