Historical context :

Victoria married her cousin Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in 1840. Her reign of 63 years and seven months was the second longest in British history after that of Elizabeth II. Known as the Victorian era, it marks a period of profound social, economic and technological change in the United Kingdom and a rapid expansion of the British Empire. She was the last British monarch of the House of Hanover who ruled the British Isles from 1714, as her son and heir, Edward VII, was from his father's line, the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
