Viktoras Kapocius (1943-2007) was a renowned Lithuanian art and press photographer, and recipient of several awards for his work. He was a long-time photographer of Gimtasis Krastas and other newspapers published in Soviet occupied Lithuania prior to 1991. Gimtasis Krastas was a Soviet propaganda newspaper published for those Lithuanians living abroad. After the breakup pf the Soviet Union and the restoration of Lithuanian independence, Kapocius went to work for Lietuvos Rytas, a leading Lithuanian newspaper published in Vilnius. He was a member of the Press Photography Club of Lithuania.

Kapocius' photographs made prior to his joining Lietuvos Rytas are very much in demand. He used a professional press camera and black and white film because at that time newspapers in Lithuania were all printed in black and white. After he joined Lietuvos Rytas, he used a digital camera and his photographs were all in color.

On the night of December 6, 2007, three individuals broke into his apartment in the Uzupis section of Vilnius for the purpose of robbing him. During the robbery, the 64-year Kapocius was beaten, knocked to the floor and and kicked. He died as a result of the attack. The three individuals were apprehended and sentenced.
