Fine Old, Possibly Antique Chinese Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Lidded Box 

Intricate geometric design in the background accents the high relief of the well-carved bird in a cherry tree.  Beautifully carved and smoothly finished. My favorite part is the tiny tongue that can be seen inside the singing bird's open beak!  A key design decorates all 4 sides.  A lovely subject, beautifully carved.

Inside the lid, inside of the box and the underside are all black lacquer in very nice condition.

Measures about 6 1/4" long x 4 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall

 
See the pictures. All sides are clearly shown. One corner has a separation that needs repair - no loss to the overall box. A shallow scratch can be seen in background to the left of the bird.  Minor wear on an old box like this is to be expected.
