Freshman FJ1 Vintage Sunburst Archtop Electric Guitar

Here for sale we have a Freshman FJ1 Archtop electric guitar in Vintage Sunburst finish. Made in China, this guitar features a set-neck construction comprising Laminated Maple back and sides, Laminated Sitka Spruce top, a Maple neck and 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard. An Ebony tailpiece and Bridge are fitted, along with Nickel Kluson-style tuning machines. A single Gotoh TV-1-N pickup is installed in the neck position, and is wired to master volume & tone controls. 

The Maple neck plays well, with a profile that might be described as a thick 'D' shape that fills the hand nicely for a vintage inspired playing experience and substantial grip in all registers. The glossy finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 24.75" scale. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its 16" radius feels notably flat under the fingers, making it perfectly suited to smooth jazzy lead lines. The cutaway enhances access to the upper register, meaning you can make use of all 20 frets with ease. 

The tone of the Freshman FJ1 is smooth, dark and precise, just as you would expect from a clearly jazz-inspired instrument. The Gotoh TV-1-N pickup installed in the neck position is warm and rich, making your jazzy chord voicings sound lush and distinct without being too harsh. There is plenty of definition for lead lines, with a responsive attack that manages to remain smooth. The controls are incredibly simple but offer the player plenty of scope for tone shaping right on the guitar. An affordable yet well appointed jazz guitar.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall excellent condition, it is difficult to discern any markings to the headstock.

Neck: Overall excellent condition, it is difficult to discern any markings to the neck and fingerboard.

Body: Overall excellent condition. The treble side of the waist shows light scratching, consistent with light playwear. A small chip to the lacquer is also present here, exposing the finish beneath. Any other markings are difficult to discern. 

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

Current Set Up:

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (4mm hex) not included.

Hardware: Excellent condition. The original pickguard is not included with the guitar. 

Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm

Electrics: 

Fully functional. The volume and tone controls appear to have been moved from the pickguard to the lower bout. This work has been carried out to a professional standard.

Boston hard case

The case demonstrates mild signs of use, with the locking latch having been removed. The case functions as expected. Truss rod tool not included.
