Waltham model 1883, 18 size, 17 jewel pocket watch with a fancy multi-colored dial manufactured circa 1900. This open face type watch is of the pendant (stem) wind, pendant set configuration and both functions work. I have had this watch for several years and have not had it serviced while I owned it. The movement is clean, bright, and running strong…the watch gained about a minute in my 24 hour test and I’m sure it could be regulated closer if that’s what you choose to do. The yellow gold filled case with screw on back cover and bezel has no dents - the case itself shows some wear through of the gold layer to the brass base metal beneath on the bottom edge, as does the pendant from decades of winding the watch (see photos). The bow is nice, but does not stay in position. The crown is newer and shows little wear, and the acrylic crystal is in very good condition. The fleur de lis style hands are in very good condition and attractive. The fancy multi-colored dial is a real eye catcher, but it does have some distraction in the form of several fine hairlines and a repair between the 12:00 and 1:00 positions - with watch in hand these distractions are not very evident - even though I bought it and had it in my collection for quite some time, I didn’t notice most of them until examining the watch to list it. The watch has a few cosmetic problems, but is still stunning with it’s fancy dial.

As with any older mechanical watch, I suggest that this one be examined by a competent watch repair person and cleaned/lubricated before putting it into every day use. That being said, the watch is running fine and if your aim is to wind it occasionally to show it off or to add it to a collection, it is probably fine as is.
