The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura" (Ukrainian: 47-ма окрема механізована бригада) is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2022. In Slavic mythology, the name Magura is interpreted as the daughter of Perun, the god of thunder and lightning, war and warriors. In the wake of the Russo-Ukrainian War, a new military unit was formed, the 47th Assault Battalion. This battalion was created under the leadership of Captain Ivan Shalamaga, who at time held the position of deputy commander in the 30th Mechanized Brigade and reconnaissance member Valery Markus. After its official establishment on April 26, the battalion underwent rigorous training before being deployed to the Vuglehirskaya area near Bakhmut. The battalion's success was recognized by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny, who ordered its expansion into a full assault regiment.Within three months, the 47th Assault Battalion was transformed into the 47th Assault Regiment, which was then led by Oleksandr Sak as its commander, with Shalamaga as his deputy. By October, the order was given to expand the regiment into a brigade, accomplished within a month. General Zaluzhny appointed Oleksandr Sak as the brigade commander. The brigade underwent combat training in various locations throughout Ukraine and Europe. Members of the brigade have been training on M2 Bradley vehicles at a U.S. base in Grafenwoehr, Germany. In contrast, tank units are based in Kharkiv. The brigade has seen a significant increase in personnel, from roughly 400 in April to around 2,000 in January 2023. The 47th Mechanized Brigade was formed from the 47th Assault Battalion, which was established with volunteers from Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, and Lviv. The Head Master Sergeant of the Battalion was Valeriy Markus.

The brigade is formed around its legend, associated with the ascent to the symbolic peak — Magura,

which symbolizes the development of fighters as professionals in their field.

The brigade has several rules and traditions that are mandatory for all fighters Liberating Robotyne: Intense clashes occurred near Robotyne amidst the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, as it held a vital position in the Russian defensive front. The village endured significant damage and population loss throughout the battles. The 47 separate mechanized brigade was the first Ukrainian unit to enter the village on July 22, 2023. On 17 August 2023, near Robotyne, one of the members of the brigade used a Swedish RBS-70 MANPAD to shoot down a Russian Ka-52 Alligator helicopter, reportedly killing one of the crew members. It was the first visible confirmation of Ukraine employing this system in combat. After a month of intense fighting, on August 23, 2023, they unfurled the Ukrainian flag on the ruins of a local school, marking the capture of the village and subsequently organized the safe evacuation of the remaining civilians.

Battle for Avdiivka:

Since the end of October 2023, the brigade has been participating in the battles for Avdiivka. In the battles for Avdiyivka, the brigade actively uses FPV drones to destroy the personnel and equipment of the Russians,

in particular, purchased by blogger Serhii Sternenko for volunteer contributions from his community. At the end of January 2024, the brigade was in active defense, and in the last few months there was no enemy advance

in the area of responsibility of the 47th OMBr. It also became known that it was possible to disable the T-90M tank with the help of the M2 Bradley. During the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the surrounded Avdiivka on February 17, 2024,

the fighters of the 25th separate assault battalion of the 47th OMBr left the Avdiivka coke farm without casualties. On February 23, 2024, the 47th brigade demonstrated the use of an Abrams tank for the first time in the Avdiivka direction.
