Artist / Title: Fairport Convention / Self Titled(aka: What We Did On Our Holidays)

Release Info: A&M SP4185 - Stereo Reference Acetate. This is from the collection of a former A&M employee.  NOTE: An acetate is basically the first step in manufacturing a record. Unlike a test pressing, where there can be sometimes as many as 50 to 100 pressed, Very few acetates are made.  Acetates are lacquer-coated aluminum discs that are entirely smooth when first manufactured, They are “cut” by placing them on a lathe that has a signal fed to the cutting head from either a live source or from a recorded magnetic tape. As the music plays, grooves are cut into the soft lacquer surface. Due to the nature of this process, an acetate should not be played multiple times as it will degrade the recorded surface. They are thicker and heavier than a normal record. 

Acetates are highly prized by collectors as they are akin to a demo and are indeed rare. Sometimes, songs will be later renamed or re-recorded, which makes them all the more unique. 

I am unfamiliar with their music so I cannot say if these versions differ in any way.

Condition: Cover with light wear and writing on back as shown. Vinyl has nice gloss with a few cosmetic marks. Plays with light occasional audibles, mostly between songs. The typed labels are clean as shown.
