This item is a single page from the magazine "The Sphere" dated February 10th 1924.

The colour illustration on the page is a scene from The Gilbert & Sullivan opera "Iolanthe", which was playing at The Princes Theatre in London.  It was taken from a drawing by H. M. Brock.

The opera, produced by the D`Oyly Carte opera company, had been completely redressed from the designs of Norman Wilkinson and this was the first time the costumes had been seen on the stage.

This item was formerly in the collection of John Cannon, the respected G&S collector and researcher who died in 2021. He left instructions that all collectors should have a chance to acquire the treasures in his collection, which will therefore be auctioned here over the next year or so by StageMemories and PaperJoys. Please let us know if you would like to be added to a mailing list, to be informed of all or specific items from John’s collection.

Condition is Generally good. The page has been trimmed so the edges are slightly uneven. There is just a little creasing, age staining and a few general signs of wear throughout. See pictures.

Dimensions : 33cm x 24cm This is large format- hence the high postage.
