Firstedition, first printing

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1952. First edition, first printing with "I-B" code on copyright page and correct first state DJ price of $2.50.

Bound inpublisher's original buff linen stamped in blue and black on the front cover and spine. Very good book with text block bright, tight and clean.  Some minor rubbing at spine edge of cover (see photos) and slight bumping to corners. Only other defects are three minor spots on front edge of text block (see photo) and former owner and gift inscription in pencil to verso of front free endpaper.

Alas, the dustjacket is in poor condition. It is in two pieces with toning and chipping (see photos) but it is not price-clipped and the colors are still bright and it remains presentable in the new mylar cover.

This is the beloved children's classic about a wonderful"little girl named Fern who loved a little pig named Wilbur--and ofWilbur's dear friend Charlotte A. Cavatica, a beautiful large grey spider wholived with Wilbur in the barn." The text is beautifully illustrated with forty-seven black andwhite drawings by Garth Williams, who also illustrated Stuart Little.
