From Robert Louis Stevenson, up for
auction is a first impression of the 1912 illustrated British Edition, the
stated “One Shilling Edition June 1912” of Treasure Island (London, Cassell and
Company, 1912). With the complete
printing history of the book on CR page (a nice resource), in black cloth with
gilt to top page ends and gilt lettering to spine, the book is in good
condition. Binding is well intact and
reasonably firm with no damage to gutters. Exterior shows light
chips and wear to crown. Front lower boards has a small area of fading. Rear board edges have a few small dents and fading in
spots. Rear board has a few small whitish
scuffs. Corners have very minor wear.
Gilt to top page ends is bright but a bit rubbed. Remaining page ends are a touch age toned.
With frontispiece and B/W illustrations throughout by Wal Paget as well as
red-lettered map prefacing first chapter, interior contents are complete and in
very good condition with no errant marks but a small old penned name with XMAS
1913 underlined beneath to front pastedown.
