*** Forget-Me-Not - Myosotis Sylvatica Order: Lamiales Family: Boraginaceae Genus: Myosotis Myosotis sylvatica (wood forget-me-not or just forget-me-not) is a species of flowering plant in the family Boraginaceae, native to Europe. It is a short-lived herbaceous perennial or biennial growing to 12–30 cm (5–12 in) tall by 15 cm (6 in) wide, with hairy leaves and a profusion of disc-shaped, intensely blue (occasionally white) flowers in Spring. It is a very popular plant for spring bedding, often seen in the company of wallflowers and tulips. It is a neat little plant, forming mats of bright blue, although as the flowering season progresses it can get leggy. Plants sometimes show pink as well as blue flowers, and varieties have been bred to give plants with all pink flowers. Separate white flowered forms are also sometimes seen. Height: 6 inch (15 cm) - under 1 ft. Flower Color: Soft blue with yellow centers, white, pink Plant Type: Perennial. Returns each spring from same roots, forming expanding clump. Blooms second spring from seed. Flower Type: Clusters of tiny simple flowers Flowering Time: Spring, Summer Upright, to 50 cm; softly hairy, with hairs at more-or-less right-angles to the main stem. Flowers grey-blue, to 8mm across, flat in profile; sepal tube with hooked hairs; April–July. Mature fruit dark brown, shiny. Mature calyx on spreading stalks longer than sepal tube; calyx teeth spreading to expose the ripe fruit. Basal leaves stalked, in a rosette; upper leaves not stalked. Generally found in woods, scree and rock ledges.
Baby's Breath - Gypsophila paniculate Order: Caryophyllales Family: Caryophyllaceae Genus: Gypsophila Gypsophila paniculata (baby's breath) is a species of flowering plant in the Caryophyllaceae family, native to central and eastern Europe. It is an herbaceous perennial growing to 1.2 m (4 ft) tall and wide, with mounds of branching stems covered in clouds of tiny white flowers in summer (hence the common name "baby's breath").[1] Its natural habitat is on the Steppes in dry, sandy and stony places, often on calcareous soils (gypsophila = "chalk-loving"). It is a popular ornamental garden subject, and thrives in well-drained alkaline to neutral soils in full sun. Blooms: June - August General: Glabrous, glaucous perennial, the stems freely-branched, 4-8 dm. tall.
