This Snaffles original blindstamped photolithograph is in good condition* and is mounted and glazed in a high-quality ebonised frame, measuring 41 x 64 cm in all.

Published circa 1916, “Gunners” is a powerful, moving illustration that depicts the essential partnership between men and animals during the Great War.

The surround bears the quote from Rudyard Kipling: “There lay the driver with ‘is ‘ead between ‘is ‘eels” and is blindstamped with the distinctive Snaffle bits “logo”

Purchased by the current owner in 1997, “Gunners” is one of the best examples of the many scenes sketched by Charles “Snaffles” Johnson Payne (1884 – 1967) from the frontline in France during WW1.

I have another Snaffles lithograph currently in a separate listing, should this be of interest.
