Silversmith Georg Jensen founded the company in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1904. It started as a small jewelry design shop, but grew into a jeweler for the Danish and Swedish royal families.
Since the 1920s, the company has expanded its operations mainly in Europe and North America, including London, Paris, New York, Berlin, and Stockholm.
In 1983, the company expanded into Asia, opening its first store in Japan at the Imperial Plaza in the Imperial Hotel in Hibiya, Tokyo.
In 1999, Jacqueline Rayban, a jewelry artist highly regarded in the fashion industry, joined the company as a designer.
In 2006, Jan Siriek, who had worked for Yves Saint Laurent and Polo Ralph Lauren, was appointed creative and artistic director.
In 2006, the world's largest jewelry store opened on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, USA. The store was designed by former boxer and world-renowned architect Tadao Ando.
Currently, the company operates over 100 stores in 12 countries.
