Paul I of Russia born September 20, 1754 (October 1, 1754 in the Gregorian calendar), assassinated March 12, 1801 (March 24, 1801 in the Gregorian calendar) in Saint Petersburg, was Emperor of Russia from 1796 until his death, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp from 1762 to 1773 (Paul de Holstein-Gottorp). He also served as de facto Grand Master of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem between 1798 and 1801.
