Measuring over 10 inches tall, very
thick and heavy, translated from the Arabic with Notes Explanatory of the Text
by Edward William Lane, this is a first
printing of the Lane's Standard 1st Thus Edition, complete in One Volume of The
Arabian Nights' Entertainments; Or the Thousand and One Nights (Philadelphia,
David McKay, ND, Circa 1887). In
intricate gilt and black decorated green cloth and “Illustrated with One
Hundred and Fifty engravings by eminent artists” (monochrome plates and
integral smaller renderings), the book is in good condition for its age. Binding is straight and well intact but slightly
shaken and far from tight. Rear gutter
has some small cracks (see photo). Some
of the paper over the cracks has been evidently glued back in place. Binding integrity is not affected. Exterior shows light wear at heel crown and
corners. Boards show some short wrinkles
in spots and front board a couple so small faded spots. Page ends are a little soiled but not badly. Interior contents are very good and complete
with no names or errant marks though one plate has a short faded blue
line.
