An art investor once said, "Always buy art that you like, and not art solely for investment. If you buy art that you like and your art appreciates financially, then you have an appreciating asset that you like. The AXIS Lock mechanism is a patented Benchmade exclusive and has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners, and is positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.
As "real knife people" know, Benchmade builds some of the world's most interesting knives. They have made some very innovative and durable designs. This particular knife is easy and comfortable to use while still holding the proud status of overachieving "workhorse". If you pick this knife up, you'll quickly choose it as one of your favorites. One comment on an unfortunate trend I have seen on eBay lately. Occasionally, bidders will bid up an item, and then "retract" their bid because they put in the "wrong amount". I don't want to sound like a jerk, but this process of bidding up and retracting inconveniences the other bidders and me. So please don't bid unless you mean it!
