A magnificent work of art this vintage T. Muto Silversmiths, Tokyo, Japan tiered jewelry casket with 3 compartments executed in 950 silver which is actually known as Brittania, a higher silver purity than sterling. Box is marked "Sterling 950". Casket is approx. 3 3/4" high, 4 3/4" wide and 3 3/8" deep and comes in original outer box approx. 4 3/8" high, 7" wide, 5 1/2" deep. Outer box has light beige/cream shiny lining with a red velvet bottom and has a silver sticker with the T Muto logo. Outer box is hinged and has a brass clasp. Weight of 950 silver jewelry casket is 573 grams. Each casket compartment is lined with red velvet which is in excellent, almost pristine condition. The outer sides of the casket have an intricate arrangement of 4 lever hinges with an anchoring hook each. There is a 1" high handle on top approx. 1 5/8" wide. In addition, there is a locking bar at front and a support bar at back side. Bottom is a dense-looking plastic. Bakelite? It has original tassels attached to handle. Box has an ornate floral design in front and sides. In looking it over with a magnifying glass, I saw 4 very miniscule flaws, 2 on side levers and 2 on casket's "skin". To summarize, this is a very rare item that is not only useful but also a beautiful eye-catching artistic representation of fine silversmithing. Condition is about excellent. Thank you for looking and please, check out my other items! Always appreciate fair feedback.
