I am helping a friend sell his father’s extensive vintage hi-fi and audio equipment collection.

The father was an avid collector of audio equipment due to his former role in broadcasting.

As I understand it, most of the items have seen little or no use and were mainly collected opportunistically as a hobby and many where never used whilst in his procession and where simply stored in a warm, dry environment to form his collection.

I am helping to (where possible) to test, value, and list the items for sale for my friend, who does not have the capacity to do it all.

Where possible, I am plugging in the items and checking for the correct functionality, i.e., in the case of an amplifier, for example, I am connecting to speakers and an audio input source and checking that reasonable sounding audio is delivered. I would then list an item like this as working, Typically I am unable to test every function of the equipment, so it is possible that some function of the system listed as working doesn’t actually work fully or partially. Due to the nature of vintage audio equipment there is often likely to be imperfections in sound production due to the degradation of electrical components over time even when items have seen little or no use. A common issue is slight sound distortion when turning knobs (this may well improve with use) etc.. an item listed as "working" may have these minor age related issues so please factor this in when making your decision. As I say, viewing testing in person at my house is encouraged.

A new item such as a stylus in original packaging would be sold as assumed new (box only opened to take picture) and this will be sold as "new" and would not be tested. A stylus where it is less clear that it is new (i.e. slight damage to the packaging which might indicate it has at least been opened previously) would be listed as "used" to be on safe side and would also not be tested as I don't have the capacity to do this.

I am also unable to test some of the very old items as I do not have the right connectors. Items like this will be listed as “untested.”.

Everything is being sold in good faith. We will not accept returns simply because of a change of mind, but if equipment is found to function incorrectly after being sold as “tested and working”, then a refund will be offered on the return of the equipment.

Equipment sold as untested is sold as such and will not be refundable.

Large and fragile pieces of audio equipment will not be posted.

You are welcome and encouraged to view, inspect, and, where possible, test at my house, which is located in Stonehouse, Plymouth, before committing to buying.

Note that, as is the case with all vintage audio equipment, degradation of capacitors and other electrical components is possible. Some very old equipment may need specialists to replace some of the electrical components to get it back to an optimal working state.

If you are interested in vintage audio equipment being sold at a priced to sell then please follow my account. I will be listing items regularly over the coming weeks and months.
