This is a rare and lovely coffee set for 5. It includes a coffee pot, creamer and a lidded sugar bowl, 5 cups and saucers, as well as a beautiful matching tray. All made from hard paste porcelain I believe. This coffee set is either from the Dresden or Meissen manufactory. Each at various stages used the wings over the caduceus mark with two entwined snakes.

Each piece is hallmarked with the  wings over a staff or caduceus with entwined snakes. I believe this would date this set back to the mid 1800’s. There  are no letters under or near the backstamps. There are the numbers 3803. Please take a look at my last 2 photographs for the back stamps. The tray does not have the Backstamp only the numbers.

This beautiful coffee set has lovely enamelled hand created detail all over it.

The rims of the coffee pot, sugar and creamer have a raised cut away pattern with a blue daisy surrounded by orange petals and an orange centre in each daisy. There is an all over pattern of fine enamelled orange sprays with tiny flowers. There are four panels with black long legged birds and black leafy patterns. The spout on the coffee pot has black stripes. The finials have the same blue enamelled daisy in them. The opening of the sugar and coffee pot are recessed to keep their lids in place without slipping off. All these pieces have a nice gold trim. Even the openings of the coffee pot, the sugar bowl and creamer are octagonal as are the lids.
.
The coffee cups are octagonal in shape. Their rims and handles are gold trimmed. The rims of the cups are detailed in the same enamelled daisies surrounded by black foliage. Once again their are four panels with a bird surrounded by black leafy patterns. This is then surrounded by an all over pattern of orange leafy and tiny floral sprays. Each foot of the cup is a slightly raised octagonal shape.

The octagonal saucers bear the same pattern only this time the long legged birds are stooping rather than standing upright. Such lovely detail. Each saucer has an indented octagonal centre so that the base of the cup can sit comfortably without slipping. Once again this is all detailed in gilt.

The super large tray has a patterned handle with gold trim and a gallery. The pattern matches up with the rest of the set. The panels with the birds are longer and it has an oval section in the middle. Once again there is the all over pattern in orange of foliage and tiny flowers. The gallery rim is surrounded by the enamelled blue daisy and foliage pattern. It has four block feet to keep the tray off the table to  avoid scratching.

Measurements. The large tray measures 22” long by 13” wide. It does not have the backstamp but does have the numbers.

The coffee pot or teapot measures 5.5” high, 9.5” from the end of the spout to the handle and at the opening it is 4” wide and 3.2” across.

The sugar bowl 4.5” high, 4” wide 3.2” cross.

The creamer 3” high almost 5” across and 3” wide.

The cups are 2.4” high just over 3.5” long and 2.5” wide.

The saucers 4.5” x 4” 3.4” high.

This would have taken days to complete this set. It is beautiful.

I do know that Dresden used this mark and was often identified with Meissen because of the quality of the work.

This is certainly a one off beautiful coffee set and under tray.
