Transcription: "Dear Mr. Althaus. Warmest greetings to your dear wife and to you for Sunday – the painting is doing well – every day is dedicated to the painting – but it is not finished yet – thank you for both letters – and your empathy. That's good - I need this unlimited peace - because I myself cannot know when it will be over. I live entirely in the studio and live with the picture – it ripens... Tires come in rain and sunshine. That's how it is with my work - up and down - in matching the background and selecting. – The face stands and remains good. I am listening to your wishes – it should and will be – it is nice that you give me peace and understanding.

I am looking forward to welcoming the hero's parents on March 21/22. – Yes, you should receive the picture here. The framework should arrive next week, which I then have to agree on. I would also very much like to have a reproduction made – I am sorry that you still have to wait and then have to travel to Berlin so shortly before the confirmation ceremony – but it is better this way. Thank you. Also it is too cold to travel. With deepest affection, yours, Margarete Schneefus."
