A fascinating history about the bibelots…

Frenchmen were the first to make enamel miniatures in the 17th century.  The English learned the skills in the mid 18th century and applied enamel designs to copper boxes.  These bibelots, which were painted entirely by hand, captivated Georgian society.  But for a long time now the English are unable to continue this handmade tradition, instead, use transfer-printing technology in order to mass produce.  This enamel piece represents the success in reviving this tradition.  It is entirely handmade.  Following the 17th century tradition, numerous different processes were executed by hand during many weeks of work.  In addition to the laborious copper cutting, assembly, and enamel painting, numerous firings were conducted with great care to solidify the enamels and brighten the colors.  It is born of fire, labor and tradition, and will bring many years of enjoyment to you.  As with any handcraft, minor imperfections are part of the charm.
