The violin, also known as a fiddle, is a string instrument, usually with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. It is the smallest, highest-pitched member of the violin family of string instruments, which also includes the viola, the cello and the contrabass.

The violin is sometimes informally called a fiddle, regardless of the type of music played on it. The word violin comes from the Medieval Latin word vitula, meaning stringed instrument; this word is also believed to be the source of the Germanic "fiddle". The violin, while it has ancient origins, acquired most of its modern characteristics in 16th-century Italy, with some further modifications occurring in the 18th and 19th centuries. Violinists and collectors particularly prize the instruments made by the Gasparo da Salò, Giovanni Paolo Maggini, Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati families from the 16th to the 18th century in Brescia and Cremona and by Jacob Stainer in Austria. Great numbers of instruments have come from the hands of "lesser" makers, as well as still greater numbers of mass-produced commercial "trade violins" coming from cottage industries in places such as Saxony, Bohemia, and Mirecourt. Many of these trade instruments were formerly sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co. and other mass merchandisers.

A person who makes or repairs violins is called a luthier. The parts of a violin are usually made from different types of wood (although electric violins may not be made of wood at all, since their sound may not be dependent on specific acoustic characteristics of the instrument's construction), and it is usually strung with gut, Perlon or other synthetic, or steel strings.

This is a collection of 184 books and publications that cover the history of the violin, including the design, construction, playing, and repair and restoration. Some of these vintage books are over 100 years old, dating back to the days of Stradivarius. Also included is a set of non-english titles in French and German as well. All of our discs are tested before shipping to ensure customer satisfaction. In VERY RARE cases does a disc get damaged and rendered unreadable in shipment. If our disc shows up and it won't read on your DVD or CD Drive, let us know, an we'll replace it. If you are unsatisfied in any way, let us know, we want you to be happy.

In some cases, customers bought DVD ROM discs and tried to play them on their CD ROM. In those cases, it is not our responsibility for your hardware compatibility issues. ALL of our DVD's are clearly marked as DVD's in the auction listing.

We accept PayPal as our only form of payment. We do not accept any other form of payment.

All items will be shipped within 1 business day to your PayPal address. We will only ship to your PayPal verified address.

All items are shipped by USPS first class mail. In an effort to keep our costs down, that are passed along as low prices to you, all of our disks are packaged and shipped in economic sleeves and mailers. All of our disks are labeled with a clean text only label. The disks are made this way for speed and cost, which translates into lower cost for you. The disk labels do not contain fancy artwork. We focus our efforts on the quality of the material on the disk. We do not believe in charging you an extra 3 or 4 dollars like some companies out there just to throw in a 25 cent plastic case and slap a color label on an item.

USA CUSTOMERS: Most times, your package will arrive in about 5 days after we ship them depending on where you are at. However, lately the Post Office it seems has not been very cooperative with us and we've had a couple of customers wait a few days longer than that. Please understand that we cannot control the Post Office, so we can't guarantee a delivery time. If the item does not arrive by the last promised ship date in ebay, please email us and let us know, and we will make it right. The only unhappy customers we have are those that don't bother to contact us and don't give us a chance to fix the problem for them.

NON-USA CUSTOMERS: Same deal above, except your packages typically have been taking about 2 weeks or so after we ship them. We've noticed that maybe 20% of overseas customers have been waiting as long as 4+ weeks for these shipments. The only explanation we can come up with is that it must be stuck in some container in some dock waiting on customs clearance. It happens, and for those 20% of customers, we apologize, but there is very little we can do about that. Your disk will arrive or we will replace it.

Multiple items purchased by the same customer may or may not be shipped in the same package, at our discretion. We do not offer any additional discounts on multiple items other than the ones noted above.

Every effort has been made to accurately describe the contents of this collection. On very very rare occasions, typographical errors may occur and we may make an innocent mistake. These items are described to the very best of our abilities, and in as much detail as possible.
