The dynamic design by Canadian wildlife artist Ellen Cowie is chock full of plant and animal life - we count no fewer than 14 animals on this oversized beauty! The circumpolar boreal zone covers much of the Earth’s northern hemisphere and is a key planetary ecosystem. About one third of the boreal zone is in Canada, covering more than half of the country’s landmass. Canada’s vast green boreal swathe is home to thousands of species of plants, insects, birds, and mammals. The creative vignettes pays tribute to the splendor of Canada’s natural life in the boreal forest - rotate to bring each separate scene into focus!

An Original Work of Art!
The design by Canadian wildlife artist Ellen Cowie features a circular collage of iconic plants and animals found throughout Canada’s boreal forests. The engaging scene entices the viewer to rotate the coin in order to take in its intricate vignettes of important Canadian plant and animal species, each united with the next in a continuous nature scene. The image highlights about two dozen plant and animal species, including the sugar maple, burr oak, jack pine, beaver, black bear, bald eagle, ruby-throated hummingbird, red squirrel, white spruce, white-tailed deer, Canada goose, eastern white pine, blue heron, and so many more.

With its gorgeous design, limited mintage and very high face value, a fast sell out at the Mint was anticipated and has occurred!

Reverse

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in profile facing right. This portrait, the fourth effigy of the queen to appear on Canadian coinage, was executed by the artist Susanna Blunt. The legend ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA (“Elizabeth II, Queen by the Grace of God”) also appears.

Packaging
The coin is encapsulated inside an environmentally friendly, full color presentation case, lined with white flock. A certificate of authenticity is integrated into the box.
