Complete L.A. Eximiner Sports Section December 15, 1929 - very good condition - "TECH STARTS WELL, THEN FADES, 45-13 - RESERVES AND SAUNDERS NET EASY VICTORY" and "Americans Capture Three Wimbledon Tennis Titles" - Here is your chance to own a piece of vintage sports history; to go back in time to the early 20th Century and relive the sporting events of December 14, 1929, not from a historical perspective, but by reading about them in the afternoon paper, told by those who covered the events as they happened. Maybe you know someone who was born on this date. This would certainly be a unique gift and bring back memories. Remember, this is the COMPLETE SPORTS SECTION. In addition to reading about the coverage of USC-Carnegie Tech football game (with a full page of photo highlights inside) there are articles and/or photos in this great vintage sports section including a great Ripley's Believe It or Not illustration (see the scan), baseball Hall of Famers Bill Veeck, Hack Wilson, Babe Ruth, Kenesaw Mountain Landis and Connie Mack, swimming champion (then the most famous movie Tarzan), Johnny Weissmuller, golf legend Walter Hagen, all the college football scores of Saturday, December 14, 1929, the final 1929 Pacific Coast League pitching stats and much more. For over half a century (mainly until the Dodgers and Giants moved west from New York after the 1957 season), the Pacific Coast League flourished and the quality of baseball on the field was almost on par with the Major Leagues. Such legendary names as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Ernie Lombardi, Lefty O'Doul, Steve Bilko, Jimmie Reese, Ike Boone, Smead Jolley, Buzz Arlett, Max West, Oscar Eckhardt, Jigger Statz, Oscar Vitt and many others starred in the PCL before (or after, in some cases) playing in the Major Leagues. Since there was no Major League baseball west of the Mississippi until 1958, the PCL was covered extensively by the local newspapers. There were two local teams covered in depth by the Los Angeles papers; the Los Angeles Angels who were in the Pacific Coast League from 1903 to 1957 and the Hollywood Stars who palyed from 1926 to 1935 and from 1938 to 1957. Check out the scan of the top half of the sports section. As you can see from the scan, this complete sports section is in pretty remarkable condition considering it is newsprint and nearly 90 years old. There is really only some light browning due to age.. You won't be disappointed. Don't get left out. No collection of vintage sports items or Pacific Coast League memoribilia is complete without this sports section.
