If you have ever tried to remove the retaining nut from the ball crank handles on a South Bend Lathe without the proper tool, you've probably said a few choice words about the original designer's heritage. These brand new spanners are the correct tool for removing the OEM retaining nuts. All bits are precision ground and are made specifically for SouthBend 9" and 10" lathes. The bits will fit the retaining nuts on both the cross slide and the compound. The spanner bit is fully hardened with a 1/2" tip width, a .22" centered slot to clear the crossfeed screw thread and a tip thickness of approximately .056". The shank of the bit is a 5/16" hex and will fit conveniently into any nut driver or small ratchet (neither of these tools are included with the bit and the photos above of the nut driver and crossfeed handle are for reference only). The bits are hollow ground so that they will not slip out of the slot and damage the nut. This tool is reasonably priced and a must have for any South Bend owner so pick up one while they last.
