What makes these LED's special is their narrow angle +/- 10 degrees, which means that they concentrate all their power forwards (unlike most LEDs) making them ideal for camera illumination or long distance remote control / communication.

You can run these continuously at a lower current or pulse them at up to 1A which gives a whopping 1800mW/sr or nearly 2Watts / sr for long range communications.

They are 870nm which is still largely covert - you could see a dull red glow, rather than being totally invisible. It is the better wavelength for using as illumination for cameras during night operation as it is towards the best sensitivity of the camera (e.g Pi-Noir camera).
