Baseball Magazine - October, 1941 - Featuring Umpire Bill Summers and some Detroit Tigers on the cover; Hall of Famer Al Lopez of the Pittsburgh Pirates inside the front cover and Hall of Famer Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox inside the back cover - 52 pages (with many great vintage black & white photos) - very good-excellent condition. Baseball Magazine, the first monthly baseball magazine, was founded by Boston sportswriter Jake Morse in 1908 and continued publishing through 1957 (with a shortlived revival in the mid-1960s). Here's your chance to own a piece of baseball history; to go back in time to the Golden Age of baseball and read about events, not from a historical perspective, but as they were happening, told by the writers who were there at the time covering the game. In addition to the great coverage of our National Pastime, Baseball Magazine was cherished by baseball fans for the great full-page black & white portraits of players which appeared inside the front and back covers. Many people cut them out and threw away the rest of the magazine. Because of this and the paper drives of World War I, World War II and continuing into the 1960s, issues of Baseball Magazine are becoming harder and harder to find in decent condition. This 1941 issue features stories on Bill Dickey of the Yankees, Billy Southworth of the Cardinals, Mike McCormick of the Reds, the leadoff man, the difference between the National and American Leagues, the Hermans of the Dodgers, a 1941 baseball quiz, Cincinnati Reds records and much more. There is some minor edge and corner wear, the centerfold is loose, and the cover is split half way up from the bottom (with some magic tape to keep it from splitting further), but this nearly 75 year-old magazine is still in very nice condition as you can see from the scan. No collection of vintage baseball publications is complete without this outstanding and SCARCE magazine. Check out the scan for the cover. You won't be disappointed. Don't get left out!
