X10 PHASE COUPLER / SIGNAL BRIDGE
Are you having trouble controlling some of your X10 devices from a particular location, but can control it from other locations?
Are some X10 devices intermittent?
More than likely, the problem modules and your controller are on opposite phases of your house wiring and need to be electrically coupled.
TRY THIS SIMPLE TEST: Turn on any 220 volt appliance (dryer, range, air conditioner) NOTE: If you don't have active 220 volt appliances to test, move the module or the controller so they are both plugged into the same circuit (on the same breaker or fuse). If the module(s) now consistently respond to commands, THIS PHASE COUPLER SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM
Most houses are fed from a 220 volt service which is then split into two phases of 110 volts each in the circuit breaker box (see fig. 1 above). The X10 signals, which are transmitted onto the house wiring on one phase, will normally travel across to the other phase through the breaker panel, pole transformer, etc. If however, the data transmission is not making it from one phase of house wiring to the other, you may couple the signal between them by installing this phase coupler across
the two phases in the panel, i.e. by connecting the coupler across your 220V air conditioner breaker or any 220V 30
Amp Max. breaker. Breakers feeding heat producing appliances such as water heater, range, dryer or devices that draw high current on startup should not be used. The excessive heat that builds up at the breaker terminals from these devices will eventually cause heat failure of the coupler. Alternatively, you can install the coupler between two adjacent 120V breakers if they are on different phases (see fig. 2 above).
MODULE SPECIFICATIONS:
I'VE USED THIS METHOD OF SOLVING X10 MODULE PROBLEMS SUCCESSFULLY FOR OVER 30 YEARS
INSTALLATION IS SIMPLE (BE SURE TO SAFELY SHUT POWER TO THE WORK OFF)
IF YOU'RE UNCERTAIN HOW TO INSTALL THESE, CONSULT A KNOWLEDGEABLE FRIEND OR QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
IF YOUR MODULES STILL DON'T WORK PROPERLY AND RELIABLY WHEN YOU TRY THE SIMPLE TEST ABOVE, YOU MAY ALSO HAVE LINE NOISE. CLICK HERE TO SEE IF A NOISE FILTER MAY HELP SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.
If you’re using an X10 wireless remote or motion sensor, you may be out of range of the transceiver. In these cases, an SR751 RF SIGNAL REPEATER, available in my Ebay store, may help.
Also read the description for our X10 PLC01 POWERLINE CARRIER REPEATER which may repeat and boost X10 line signals enough to overcome some phase and line noise issues.

Installation on breakers controlling high heat devices such as water heaters, ranges, dryers ordevices that draw high current on startup should not be used. These breakers typically build up heat at their terminals which could transfer to the coupler, causing heat failure. An air conditioner breaker is the ideal location.
