Johnston's atlas of military geography to accompany Alison's Modern History of Europe. Sir Archibald Alison, 1st Baronet (1792 1867) was a British lawyer, who held several prominent legal appointments, historian and baronet. When travelling in France in 1814 he conceived the idea of his Modern History of Europe from the French Revolution to the Fall of Napoleon, which deals with the period from the outbreak of the French Revolution to the restoration of the Bourbons, and extends, in its original form (183342), to 10 volumes. Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) was a Scottish geographer.
