Saar Protectorate (Saarland)

1956 - International Saar Fair

The Saar Protectorate (German: Saarprotektorat; French: Protectorat de Sarre) was a short-lived protectorate (1947–56) partitioned from Germany after its defeat in World War II; it was administered by France. Consequently the currency used was the French Franc. After a Plebiscite, the French returned control of the region to the government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957.

This stamp was issued on 14th April 1956 to mark the international trade fair held in Saarbrucken.

The stamp depicts symbols of Saar industries and the fair's emblem.
