Recommended Maintenance:

  • Ensure garage door hinges, roller wheels and bearings are properly lubricated to avoid excessive friction which will prematurely age the spring

GDS Recommended Best Practice:

Only use winding bars designed to fit inside anchor cone. Failure to use the appropriate equipment to torque to torsion spring is the leading cause of injury when installing torsion springs.

If you are looking to only replace a single spring from your garage door because only one is broken today or not functioning, then our strong recommendation is to replace both springs on your door. The likelihood that the remaining spring failing shortly is very probable.

Reminder:

Please remember that your garage door is the largest moving object in your house and needs to have its moving parts such as cables, hinges, spring(s), drums, etc. inspected routinely to ensure proper function and safe operation.

Disclaimer:

Garage door torsion springs, cables, brackets, and other hardware attached to the springs are under very high tension and, if handled or installed improperly, can cause serious injury. For safety and other reasons, GDS recommends that only a qualified, licensed professional install or adjust torsion springs by carefully and properly following the manufacturer's instructions also using the proper specialized tools required.
