Rosettes fit between a fencing sword's blade and guard for extra decoration, though will need to be shaped to fit the intended guard (they're shipped flat). Rosettes get their name from a floral rose pattern prominent in architecture and furniture design. The name rosette (or rosetta in Italian) therefore only describes a shape, though was a common enough outline for the weapon component now referred to as a rosette so as to bequeath its name. Our Cerchio rosette features a circular outline with an angular, pierced interior. Rosettes certainly add decoration to a solid shell guard but also re-enforce the tang channel of the guard and are especially useful for heavier blades or sabres.
