Up for grabs is a new, hand made Tri-band "Tiger-Tail", or "Rat tail", or more appropriately a counterpoise for hand held amateur radios that have a SMA female body post on the radio. Covers 2m, 220, and 440 ham bands. Counterpoises help to complete the dipole of your radio where handhelds are designed to use your body as a counterpoise. The radios in my pictures are NOT included in the sale, just the counterpoise. I used my radios to reference how the antenna is installed as well as to show the increase in signal shown, on the same repeater, when the counterpoise is installed and when it's off. For the best results, I've used three different size wires, one for each band. Wire was crimped and soldered, as well as heat shrink used to offer better protection and a sleeker look. While online I've seen some ludicrous claims about the "gain" when adding a counterpoise, I can say that on my Yaesu FT1-XDR I get normally +2 on my signal meter for distant repeaters with my counterpoise on vs when it is not on. It can make the difference between someone not being able to make you out at all to being able to be understood. I do ARES work and never leave home without it.

This counterpoise must be installed on a belt hook screw in order to be installed. This provides for an easy installation and is metal on metal contact with the chasis of the radio. I've shown it installed on a UV-5R as well as a GT-3TP. It will work with any model of Baofeng, TYT, or Wouxon. Also works with any other brand with screw in belt clips to the chassis. Since the strength signals on Baofengs are not exactly precise, I showed a picture as well of my Yaesu version on my FT1-XDR so you can see it does indeed work Works great on digital radios as well for range extension!

If you are looking for the SMA male body version, check my other listing.

Don't be fooled by $30 versions out there that are just fancier versions with a sticker and an LED!

All tiger tails were hand made right here in the USA.
