These end of the 19th century shoes were bought by our grandmother in the San'a Yemen in the 60's. She was told that these shoes were used by wealthy Yemenite Jewish women. Shoes of this nature were worn only by high status wealthy individuals. They are hand-made of leather, animal sinew and silver thread. They are highly decorated. She was also told that by the early 20th century, these same shoes were used in divorce ceremonies as the Jewish man would place these shoes outside the door of his house signifying that he wanted a divorce from his wife. The name of the ceremony is Halutzah. There are very few examples of these kinds of Yemenite shoes but we have found similar ones in a book called "The Yemenites Two Thousand Years of Jewish Culture". The book is printed by the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The author's name is Ester Muchawsky-Schnapper. These are truly museum pieces. We have never seen any come up for sale. They measure 9" long and 4" wide. Guaranteed authentic and reasonably priced.

Shipping Policies:

·       We never gouge shipping costs; the cost to us is the cost to you. If for some reason the shipping costs are lower than our fees, the excess fees will be promptly refunded to you.

·       There is a $1.50 handling fee for all items that we ship, to cover the cost of the shipping materials (cardboard boxes, packing tape, packing paper, etc).

·       The eBay shipping calculator is not always accurate, so if you feel that it is too high, please contact us for a shipping quote to your zip code or country.

·       We do combine shipping, so please contact us for a quote!

·       Usually, items are shipped within 1-2 business days of receiving cleared payment.  That is not always possible, but we do guarantee that all items ship within 10 business days.

International Buyers - Please Note:

·       Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the shipping cost.  These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick up the item. These fees are not additional shipping charges.

·       We do not under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms.  Doing so is against U.S. and international laws.

Shipping Insurance:

·       eBay has stopped offering shipping insurance in their calculated shipping, but everything that we ship within the U.S. that has a final value of over $15 has shipping insurance.

·       Domestic buyers: The cost of insurance is included in the handling fee.  For items that end above $500, please do not pay immediately, but wait for an invoice listing the shipping charges.

·       International buyers: Please do not pay immediately, but wait for an invoice listing the shipping charges, including the international insurance, if available.

Payment:

·       Payment is expected within 48 hours of the sale.

·       At this time, we only accept payment via PayPal.

·       If you cannot use PayPal for any reason, please contact us and we will do our best to find an acceptable alternative.

Returns/Refunds:

·       Unless otherwise stated, returns are accepted within 14 days of receipt of the item.

·       Returns must be for a valid reason (i.e., if the item was not as represented, or if item arrived damaged).

·       Buyer is responsible for return shipping.

·       Refunds are processed as money back, through PayPal, as soon as the return is received.
